Saint Simon stands facing the viewer, depicted full-length. He wears voluminous robes which fall in pleats and folds to obscure his entire body, except for a foot, a hand, and his head left exposed. Beside his foot, the hilt of a sword lays askew on the ground, in the lower right corner. His hand points to text at the bottom of the page of an opened book, held close by the saint, at chest height. He looks away from the book, however, to the left, his long, curling beard flowing diagonally across his chest, back toward the book. A halo encircles his head, blank space delineated by thin, spiky lines like rays from a sun. The saint stands at the inner corner of two unadorned walls, shoulder height at left, and hip height at right. Beyond the lower wall, an expansive body of water with a single ship seen in the distance, and an unclouded sky, the blank page.
