Textile (Spain)

This is a Textile. It is dated 18th–19th century and we acquired it in 1902. Its medium is silk, metallic and its technique is embroidery on woven gauze and satin weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

It is inscribed

"El hombre de mucho poder y que nada codicia, es como este arbol llamado ____ [illegible], su naturaleza en llegando al otoño apetece el viento, y plantado frente de la ventana, recibe por la noche los resplandores de la luna que pasan por medio de una densa nube azulada. En llegando el otoño los arbolitos se disputan su hermosura, reciben el influjo del cielo y tierra naciendo al lado de peñas, ellos desean producir flores dorados segun corresponde a su estacion, y por lo mismo quieren conseguir su hermosura en medio de este cielo y tierra."
