Pitcher Pitcher

This is a pitcher. It was manufactured by Tiffany & Co.. It is dated 1877–1885 and we acquired it in 1926. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Edward C. Moore, head of the Tiffany & Co. silver department, encouraged the creation of metalwares inspired by Islamic arts and design, which he collected. This Persian-style pitcher reflects Moore’s influence and represents the late nineteenth-century American fascination with Middle and Far Eastern cultures. Its detailed repoussé work, created by hammering the silver out from within, was often found in Tiffany works around this time, though the overall decoration is unusual.

This object was bequest of Mrs. John Innes Kane. It is credited Bequest of Mrs. John Innes Kane.
