Sampler (Germany)

This is a Sampler. It is dated 1755 and we acquired it in 1931. Its medium is silk and cotton embroidery on linen foundation and its technique is embroidered in silk, cross, back and long-armed cross stitches on plain weave foundation; small area of chain stitch in white cotton which may be a later addition. It is a part of the Textiles department.

It is credited Gift of Eleanor Garnier Hewitt.
