A rectangular game board painted, gilded and varnished, with twenty rectangular, decorated sections, numbered 41 through 60, which are divided into four columns and five rows. The four columns are further divided into two by a vertical column of laurel leaves. The twenty numbered rectangles each contain an image which appears to be arranged in a pattern. In each of the four corners there is a cherub represented inside a flowered roundel, beneath the top cherubs and above the bottom cherubs are four seated female figures who are perhaps allegorical, in the two rectangles between them we find an owl on the left and a dog in a standing pose on the right. The middle two columns contain portraits of a woman on the left and a man on the right in the top and bottom rectangles; followed by blossom on the left paired with an amphora on the right; followed by two figures in landscape, female on the left, male on the right; followed by a basket containing wheat on the left paired with plums on the right. The numbered rectangles are framed by grey, grotesque, carved classical decoration in four dark red panels with gold highlights. At the top of the board is a central, gold-framed cartouche inscribed with the Roman numeral III flanked by laurel leaf swags.

Gambling has long been a part of the leisure activities and tempting habits of many countries of the world throughout history. The wagering of money on an event with an uncertain outcome requires consideration, chance, and a potential prize. Cavagnole, or biribi, is an Italian and French game of chance where players put their stakes on a number on the board from 1 to 70 and if their number is drawn they win 64 times their stake.
