Wavy lines ebb and flow away from the circle, with brown, light blue and yellow color. The square is bordered with diamond shapes. The ends of the square are frayed in a multi-colored pattern, with each individual fray a different color. Colors include red, forest green, white, black, and orange.

Shawl (India)

This is a Shawl. It is dated 19th century and we acquired it in 1967. Its medium is wool and its technique is embroidered and pieced. It is a part of the Textiles department.

By the late 19th century, demand for shawls was so high that French agents began bringing the latest fashion styles and trends to India for new design ideas. Influences of late-19th-century French art nouveau can be seen in the elongated form and whiplash curves of the paisley cones and surrounding patterns.
