Pendant (England)

This is a pendant. It was made by Harold Stabler and Phoebe Stabler. It is dated 1921 and we acquired it in 1968. Its medium is enameled copper, silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

A shallow rectangular vanity case, standing upright on a reflective surface against a white background. The front panel is pale, striated golden-pink agate stone. Centered on the front is a small square low-relief medallion depicting a pair of vessels on a deep green background, composed from carved semiprecious stones or enamel. At left is a short, rotund light green and blue footed pot; at right is a tall orange jar with its lid resting behind, topped with a spray of diamond leaves and round pink carved rubies. A diamond border encloses the plaque. Deep blue enamel decorates the edges and sides of the case. At top and bottom, a deep blue enamel motif set with a large diamond points to the center. The sides feature a meandering basket-weave pattern in blue enamel on gold. A large oval-shaped carved ruby thumbpiece in a gold fitting protrudes from the right side.
