Striped bowl made out of slip-cast porcelain. The stripes are formed with white bands and orange lines that feather to the side. It features a colorful scene with a collage of images. These include: half-circles resembling mountains, castle with blue battlements, church with a pink roof and green steeple, yellow shooting star, orange clouds, and a walking character depicted larger than the other elements. The traveling character wears green clothing and a large-brimmed hat. The character is in a walking motion with one foot in front of the other and is holding a gray stick. The inner portion of the bowl is also striped but now with two colors - orange and pink with a feathering effect to the side.

Il Pellegrino di Montesanto Bowl

This is a bowl. It is dated 1924–25 and we acquired it in 1968. Its medium is glazed slip-cast porcelain. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

An example of this model was shown at Il Biennale Monza 1925 and in the Macy’s 1928 International Exposition of Art in Industry. It displays a whimsy combined with elements of Italian traditional design.

It is credited Museum purchase from General Acquisitions Endowment.

An oval fluted porcelain bowl, with a cover featuring an intricate figurative sculptural finial. The bowl is white, with a beaded foot in pastel green and yellow, and a deep rose band around the base. The cover is decorated with a ridged rim, repeating the same colors of the base, surmounted by a sculptural finial presenting two mirrored figures, a male and female, in a theatrical posture that reminds of traditional folk dances. The dancers are delicately painted in the same pastel colors, and additionally orange and light blue for the costumes, and black for the hair, shoes and details of the stylized facial features. Behind the dancing couple, entwined by drapery, is an oversized, stylized rinceau motif, a botanically inspired wavy decoration that creates a playful background for the traditionally themed dancers.
