Kul Oba Brooch Brooch

This is a brooch. It was made by Fortunato Pio Castellani & Sons. It is dated ca. 1875 and we acquired it in 1969. Its medium is gold. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

It is credited Museum purchase through gift of Anonymous Donor, Annie Schermerhorn Kane, and various donors.

A tangled cascade of silver flower and leaf shapes falls from a bare light bulb, which is almost concealed by the foliage. Black and white flowers and leaves accent the mass of strands. The metal shapes are clumped in a thicket at the top of the form before thinning out at the bottom, showing the silhouettes of the flowers and leaves.
