Bowl

This is a bowl. It is dated late 9th-11th century and we acquired it in 1972. Its medium is wheel thrown earthenware, slip, underglaze painted in polychrome pigments under a transparent glaze. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Dorothy G. Shepherd. It is credited Gift of Dorothy G. Shepherd.

A horizontally-laying rectangular tile with a large chip on the surface of the upper left corner. The top and bottom of the tile are bordered with an electric light blue color, the larger center portion has a background of a darker, still vibrantly blue color. Painted in this center portion is a winding and twisting floral motif, with skinny white and turqoise vines that curve to connect seven different large blossoms and flower buds, each their own mesmerizing combination of white, turquoise, and orange petals.
