Pillow Cover (England)

This is a Pillow cover. It is dated 17th century and we acquired it in 1972. Its medium is wool and its technique is tapestry weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

A rustic, trellised walkway forms an open tunnel featuring thin logs and surrounded by lush greenery. Vines and leaves drape from the top of the trellis, and on either side of the wide walkway are bright green grasses and bushes punctuated with tree trunks. Rays of sunlight stream through the gaps, contrasting the shade. Wide, horizontal planks form a gray pathway, alternating with the visible soil underlayer beneath the trellis. A vibrant white light punctuates the vanishing point at the center of the image.
