Mourning Sampler (England)

This is a Mourning sampler. It is dated ca. 1800 and we acquired it in 1974. Its medium is silk embroidery on silk foundation and its technique is embroidered on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Unknown. It is credited Gift of Anonymous Donor from the Fraser/Martin Collection.

A 3D printed spiked enclosed tall green urn with stubbed love handles. The inverted pearl shaped middle is textured and patterned from various sized individual spikes to create open and closed spirals with negative spaces. There are smooth spots along the right side of the closed lid and under the right handle. The base extends from the tip of the pearl shape thin point and expands to the width of the urn with a spiral on the left and right side.
