Quilt (Italy)

This is a Quilt. It is dated 15th century and we acquired it in 1976. Its medium is linen, cotton and its technique is trapunto (two layers of plain weave, pattern outlined in back stitch, pattern shapes stuffed with unspun cotton or heavy cotton cord, background areas textured by running stitches which also hold two layers together. It is a part of the Textiles department.

It is credited Gift of Josephine Howell.
