British Football Matchsafe

This is a matchsafe. It was manufactured by Sampson Mordan & Company. It is dated 1905–06 and we acquired it in 1978. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

S M & Co, lion passant, town mark (Chester), date letter "E" are all stamped on bezel. On reverse bezel is partially legible number _467827. Lion passsant and date letter "E" also stamped on front of lid.
