Print, The Crowning of Voltaire at the Comedie Francaise

This is a Print. We acquired it in 1977. Its medium is etching with engraving. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

In 1778, after a performance of Voltaire's drama Irene et Nanine, the actors of the Comedie Francaise, in the presence of the author, who is seated in a box at the left, honored him by crowning his bust onstage.

It is credited Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Richard B. Freund.
