"Brownies" Characters Matchsafe

This is a matchsafe. It was manufactured by Gorham Manufacturing Company. It is dated 1894 and we acquired it in 1978. Its medium is silver, enamel. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Carol B. Brener and Stephen W. Brener. It is credited Gift of Stephen W. Brener and Carol B. Brener.

Its dimensions are

6.1 x 4 x 1 cm (2 3/8 x 1 9/16 x 3/8 in. )

It has the following markings

Lion passant, an anchor, upper-case gothic "G", STERLING, are all stamped on front bezel. On reverse bezel, the date symbol for 1894 (circle with arrow on upper right) and the number 1085 are stamped.
