Dark brown vulcanite matchsafe, shaped like a riding boot. The details of the boot - seams, handle at the top - are finely molded. The surface has a satin gloss. The upper part of the boot is the lid, which slides off. Incised in yellow on the calf of the boot, below the lid, 'COMPLIMENTS OF HOOD RUBBER COMPANY BOSTON U.S.A.'. The company name and city are enclosed in a circle, along with simple decorative lines. The sole of the boot is deeply grooved.
