This is an engraved print. It depicts a woman seated outside. She is dressed in a resplendent renaissance floor-length, long-sleeved dress decorated with scrolling floral motifs. A shoulder cape with similar ornamentation and ruffled edges rests over the dress. A ruff collar completes the ensemble. Her right leg is crossed over her left. On her lap is a lace cushion held in place by her left hand. Here right hand, raised, holds a rectangular comb with teeth on both sides. She is combing her long hair which emerges from a wide-brimmed visor and falls down over the back of the chair past her shoulders. Her gaze is upward toward the upper left of the print, from which beams of light depicted as lines emerge. In front of her is a small, four-legged stool decorated with scalloped arches. On top of the stool is a rectangular mirror that has been propped up. The blurred reflection of the sitter’s face is visible. To her left is a small, short-haired dog seated on its hind legs. In the foreground, on the left is a small vase with modest geometric decoration. Below this framed scene in a register is the text “Femina Veneta” and the number “12.”
