This is a matchsafe. It was manufactured by Gorham Manufacturing Company. It is dated ca. 1886 and we acquired it in 1980. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

STERLING, illegible mark (possibly date symbol) stamped on front bezel; lion passant, anchor, G, 360 stamped on reverse bezel.
