Chicago World's Fair Agricultural Building Matchsafe

This is a matchsafe. It was manufactured by Huntley, Boorne, & Stevens. It is dated 1893 and we acquired it in 1982. Its medium is plated tin, printed, gilded. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Carol B. Brener and Stephen W. Brener. It is credited Gift of Stephen W. Brener and Carol B. Brener.

This white handkerchief has blue print and shows a building in the center that runs diagonally. A zigzag, geometric border frames a detailed, realistic illustration of a large, rectangular building with outdoor garden, road, and small people. The building itself is a long from end to end, with square rooms on the ends and one directly in the center. In between the square rooms is a curved greenhouse roof, that sits below a rectangular second floor. Underneath the building illustration reads HORTICULTURAL HALL in all caps.
