This is a matchsafe. It is dated 1899–1900 and we acquired it in 1982. Its medium is silver, enamel. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Carol B. Brener and Stephen W. Brener. It is credited Gift of Stephen W. Brener and Carol B. Brener.

Its dimensions are

5.4 x 3.7 x 1 cm (2 1/8 x 1 7/16 x 3/8 in. )

It has the following markings

W.N, lion passant, Chester town mark, date letter "Q" all stamped on bezel; "T" stamped on reverse bezel; worn lion passant stamp on lid front.
