Creamer (France)

This is a creamer. It was designed by Jean Elysée Puiforcat. It is dated ca. 1928 and we acquired it in 1982. Its medium is silver, walnut. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

By the end of the 1920s, Jean Puiforcat's spherical pots set the stage for this form to dominate domestic design products for a broad market.

It is credited Museum purchase from General Acquisitions Endowment Fund.

Nickel-plated brass elongated semi-spherical creamer resting on two splayed strips of the metal, which serve as feet. There is a thick-looking slab of vertical dark wood attached to a slimmer piece of the metal, which is the handle. The spout, halfway around the creamer from the handle, is shaped like a right triangle. The grey metal is quite tarnished. The creamer is pictured with other matching objects in the set: a teapot, sugar bowl, and cup.

Octagonal sterling tea and coffee service with double slabs of rectangular rosewood handles. There is a samovar-like water kettle, a tea and coffeepot, sugar, creamer, waste pot and tongs. The initials LMW are engraved in upper case block letters on the serving pieces.
