Valise Matchsafe

This is a matchsafe. It was probably George Unite. It is dated 1883–84 and we acquired it in 1982. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Stephen W. Brener and Carol B. Brener. It is credited Gift of Stephen W. Brener and Carol B. Brener.

Its dimensions are

5.2 x 3.3 x 1.5 cm (2 1/16 x 1 5/16 x 9/16 in. )

It has the following markings

G.U. date letter "i", anchor, lion passant, illegible mark (probably duty mark) all stamped on front; date letter "i" and duty mark stamped on underside of lid.
