Matchsafe (Russia)

This is a matchsafe. It is dated 1882–96 and we acquired it in 1982. Its medium is champlevé enameled silver, fiber. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Carol B. Brener and Stephen W. Brener. It is credited Gift of Stephen W. Brener and Carol B. Brener.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D (box): 6 x 3.6 x 1.6 cm (2 3/8 x 1 7/16 x 5/8 in.)

It has the following markings

On bottom: "AB" [Cyrillic] in a rectangular punch (probably assay master's mark); standard: "88" with scepter and two crossed anchors within oval punch

It is inscribed

Scratched on lid: "106L334X751"; painted on rim: "275XCB"
