Miser's Purse, 1810–30

This is a Miser's purse. It is dated 1810–30 and we acquired it in 1953. Its medium is silk, metal and its technique is netting. It is a part of the Textiles department.


Miser’s purses were used by men and women to carry coins and other small objects. The metal rings slide to the side to reveal a slit which gives access to the contents inside.

This object was donated by Mrs. Albert Blum. It is credited Gift of Mrs. Albert Blum.
