Valance (France)

This is a Valance. It was company: Oberkampf & Cie.. It is dated 1783–89 and we acquired it in 1955. Its medium is linen warp, cotton weft (z-twist) and its technique is relief printed. It is a part of the Textiles department.

It is credited Museum purchase from Au Panier Fleuri Fund.

It is inscribed

Printed with the factory mark in use between 1783 and 1789. 'MR' in a box in both red and black. 'D8445' in red on back. Incomplete black number on back ending in 05. '6605' on front. Indistinct grey mark on front, 'SDO' in chained circle and number ending in '598'. '30V' on front.
