Cane (USA)

This is a cane. It was made by Henry Rado. It is dated ca. 1890 and we acquired it in 1957. Its medium is wood, silver-gilt. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Bright red cane with pyramidal support at the tip. The handle is shaped like a T, with one side angled upward and shorter than the other. The ends of the handle are silver. Just below the handle, on the long body of the cane, is a shallow vertical divot in the cane. A third of the way down is a round, silver button that appears to help adjust the height of the cane. Just below this, the bottom part of the cane appears to fit inside the top part. There are two notches on the bottom part of the cane. The tip of the cane is made of three strips of non-slip material that curve to form a pyramidal shape. They have raised grips.

Dark gray cane with pyramidal support at the tip. The handle of the cane has a curved shape for easy gripping applications. Te cane contines down curved inward and then comes to stop. Up until this point the cane is covered in a soft material. There is a silver button right in the middle. Below this the cane is straight (silver material) The tip of the cane is made of material to form a pyramidal shape.

Walking cane with a protruding handle covered in red silicone. With the cane’s body as reference, the handle extends to the left side and only slightly by about an inch to the right slanting upwards. The body of the cane is made out of walnut giving it a light brown color. It has a red rubber grip at the bottom.

This cane is long with a wood finish for the shaft. The top of the cane has a light blue circular handle with elongated hand grip. On the other end of the handle is a slight angle upwards. The cane also has a matching light blue bottom grip for the floor.
