Print, Prospetto Interno del Teatro Olimpico Nella Citta di Vincenza (View of the Stage of the Teatro Olimpico at Vicenza)
This is a Print. It was architect: Andrea Palladio and Vincenzo Scamozzi. It is dated ca. 1750 and we acquired it in 1960. Its medium is engraving on cream laid paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Andrea Palladio's Olympic Theater (completed in 1580) is one of the first roofed theaters in Italy. The permanent setting, with its illusionistic perspective of receding streets, represents the city of Thebes. It was designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi (1522–1616) and completed in 1585, after Palladio's death. The theater is still used today for opera and classic plays.
