Waistcoat (France)

This is a Waistcoat. It is dated 1765–75 and we acquired it in 1962. Its medium is silk, metal and its technique is embroidered with metal-wrapped silk, sequins (pailletes) and coils of wire of two types; on a foundation of plain weave silk with continuous supplementary weft of metal-wrapped silk. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was bequest of Richard Cranch Greenleaf (American, 1887–1961). It is credited Bequest of Richard Cranch Greenleaf in memory of his mother, Adeline Emma Greenleaf.
