Sidewall (Italy)

This is a sidewall. It is dated 1930–40 and we acquired it in 1939. Its medium is block-printed paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

Large sample of silk-screen turquoise printed cotton velvet. There is a repeating pattern design of concentric circles in eight gradient shades of dark to light blue across the silk.

Large sample of silk-screen printed cotton velvet with a design of striped, curving lines in eight gradated shades of turquoise. The eight lines curve identically in three separate and equally identical groups that run vertically down the sample: the gradation of the lines move from dark to light beginning at the left of each group. The negative space throughout the sample is filled with a medium-toned turquoise color that also exists as a line in the middle of each group. There is an irregular white border around the sample with small print lettering and the artist's signature in cursive running down the top left corner of the border. Slight creases that form neat squares are present throughout the sample's fabric.

Large sample of silk-screen printed cotton velvet with a checkerboard design of squares in eight gradated shades of turquoise, the darkest shades forming a large diamond lattice. The shades of the squares within each diamond lattice gradate lighter towards the center until only one precise center square within each lattice is the lightest color of turquoise. There is an irregular white border around the sample with small print lettering and the artist's signature in cursive running down the top left corner of the border. A series of twelve small white dots run across the bottom of the sample almost touching the border.

Large sample of silk-screen printed cotton velvet with a design of concentric squares in eight gradated shades of turquoise. The concentric pattern sections out the sample in an overall 3x3 formation of nine distinctly large squares. Beginning at the top left, every other large square has within it eight gradations that start with an outter dark turquoise and grow to light; the remaining four squares between this pattern have an opposite formation that has an outter light turquoise that gradates to dark. There is an irregular white border around the sample.
