This is a Drawing. It was after William Morris and firm: Morris & Co.. It is dated 1917–40 and we acquired it in 1941. Its medium is graphite on oiled translucent paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

Square paper with square in the middle depicting a pencil-drawn pattern in the middle. The drawing itself has a grid of four branches: one branch of slender, pointed leaves next to a branch of bulbs, either fruit or flower buds. The two are then repeated underneath but in opposite positions. Between the branches are small groups of vertical lines to imply repeated pattern in between the leaves and buds. Underneath the square drawing are notes for the finished pattern that reads '5' by 5', 3/3 each, 6' by 6', 4/3 each, rights and lefts made of this...' It has a stamp on the top left that has a circle with text that reads: '17 George Street, Morris, Hanover Square, London.'

A drawing design for a tile in graphite, brush and tempera. It is drawn on oiled translucent paper. The drawing has a thick yellow border. The top-left of the border is stamped with the text “17 George Street Morris Hanover Square London” The bottom-part of the border has the following handwritten text “5” x 5” - 3/3 Each” and the text “Also made 6” x 6” 4/3 each” below it. The main illustration is saturated with flowers and leaves. Two small flowers with details in the middle drawn in white. Both flowers are connected to leaves and stems which swirls and waves in a cohesive manner in relation to the overall tile design. On the right is a large flower but only 2/3 of its left side is illustrated before being cut off by the border.
