Iroquois Casual Butter Dish And Lid

This is a Butter dish and lid. It was designed by Russel Wright and manufactured by Iroquois China Company. It is dated 1947 and we acquired it in 1999. Its medium is glazed, molded porcelain. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Brooklyn Museum. It is credited Gift of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Paul F. Walter Collection.

A silver-plated butter pat in the shape of a folding fan which is held together by a sphere with feathers. In the center is a gold circle inscribed with two curling initials. The fan has eleven sections each with a floral decoration and striped top piece.

A silver-plated butter pat in the shape of an artists palette with brushes extending from the lower right. In the center is a circular section which is decorated with flowers, fish and a fan. In the upper right is a long curling vine with three silver butterflies.

A silver-plated butter pat in the shape of a square napkin with folded corners. The napkin is silver and decorated with a repeating dotted pattern, while the corners are gold with silver tassels. In the center is an intended circle inscribed with two curling initials.
