Big Shot Camera

This is a camera. It was designed by Henry Dreyfuss and manufactured by Polaroid Corporation. It is dated 1971 and we acquired it in 1999. Its medium is molded plastic, metal. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

It is credited Museum purchase through gift of Neil Sellin.

An instant camera stands opened from its collapsible form. Opened, it is triangular and tent-shaped, brown leather surface, expanding black leather sides to open the body and the viewfinder, with chrome silver frame and front plate with circular lens, circular flash, red, circular shutter button and adjustable exposure ring and focus ring at the top. Because of its collapsible shape, while sitting the front lens plate is pointed downward, and directly underneath it is a supported folding wall that says Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera. At the top of the triangular shape, the viewfinder extends diagonally upward on top of the tent, creating its own tent-like appendage of its own.

A nylon cord necklace with a black dull circular pendant in the form of a convex mirrored camera lens. The base of the pendant is gray as is the loop that sits centered at the top and connects the lens to the cord.
