Sidewall, Souvenir

This is a sidewall. It was produced by Carolyn Ray Inc.. It is dated 1999 and we acquired it in 2002. Its medium is screen printed on paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

Carolyn Ray’s Souvenir was included in Cooper-Hewitt’s 2001 exhibition, Rooms with a View, Landscape and Wallpaper. Ray’s repeating images of Japanese cliffs, a New England pond, a field in southern France are printed in a colorway called daguerreotype that evokes a nostalgic sense for beautiful places that may no longer exist. Ray designs and produces her own wallpapers and textiles. In the competitive commercial market, she is one of the few designers who has been successful. The museum’s collection holds other designs produced by Ray beginning in the early 1980s, when she began her business.

This object was donated by Carolyn Ray Inc.. It is credited Gift of Carolyn Ray Inc..

Its dimensions are

160.0 x 76.2 cm (63 x 30 in. )
