Sidewall, Flower Bed

This is a sidewall. It was created by Trenton Doyle Hancock and printed by Screen Reproduction Inc.. It is dated 2003 and we acquired it in 2003. Its medium is screen printed on paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

Flower Bed was designed by Trenton Doyle Hancock in 2003. This paper is part of a body of work by Hancock that explores an idiosyncratic mythology through parables about good and evil. The parables feature furry black and white animate forms and chronicles their struggle against adversity. One of his characters, Homerbuctus, has an eye for beauty but knows no moderation. His insatiable appetite for beauty leads him to take the flowers as his “mistresses.” This abundance of beauty is echoed in the Flower Bed wallpaper
Hancock, an African American artist based in Texas, has had numerous solo exhibitions at museums and galleries. Prior to this body of work, he dealt with racial stereotypes and explored the barriers black males have historically confronted. After dealing with racial stereotypes in a variety of ways, “inflating them and ultimately imploding and disintegrating them,” Hancock was ready to move on.
Flower Bed is beautifully designed and screenprinted. The attention to detail is amazing. This artist-designed wallpaper is a fine addition to our collection of contemporary wallpapers.
