Sidewall, Daphnis

This is a sidewall. It was designed by Dagobert Peche and made by Flammersheim & Steinmann and made for Wiener Werkstätte. It is dated 1922 and we acquired it in 1930. Its medium is machine-printed paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

Dagobert Peche went to Vienna in 1906 to study architecture at the Technische Hochschule. In 1911 he was introduced to Josef Hoffman, founder of the Wiener Werkstatte, and soon began designing textiles for the Wiener Werkstatte, working on a freelance basis until 1915, when he became a full member. A number of Peche wallpaper designs were included in the first Wiener Werkstatte collection produced in 1914. Many of Peche’s wallpaper designs are based on plant forms found in nature.

This object was donated by Frankl Galleries. It is credited Gift of Frankl Galleries.
