Sidewall, V2

This is a sidewall. It was manufactured by MIO. It is dated 2004 and we acquired it in 2005. Its medium is molded recycled paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

Made from 100% pre- and post-consumer recycled materials, the V2 wall tile by MIO is one of the first environmentally-friendly wallcoverings in existence. When the tiles are installed on a wall they can be painted, stenciled, or left in their natural color. These tiles are available in three colors: grey (made from recycled newspaper), white, and brown. When they are no longer needed they can again be recycled. V2 is a clever and versatile design that shows a new use of old materials. It is reminiscent of the embossed papers that began appearing in the late 19th century, only in much higher relief
If accepted for acquisition, MIO will provide the museum with a gift of a full carton of 12 tiles. This set of tiles would be a great addition to the collection, as it would strengthen our holdings in contemporary American wallcoverings.

This object was featured in our Object of the Week series in a post titled Eco-friendly Wallcovering.
