Frieze (USA)
This is a Frieze. It is dated 1900–1920 and we acquired it in 2005. Its medium is machine-printed on paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.
This is an independent frieze that allows the patterned wall to end below the height of the ceiling. This frieze would have been hung over a patterned sidewall to give the appearance of open space at the top of the wall, with a large scale rose swag spanning the distance.
Papers such as this greatly increase the diversity of early 20th-century papers in the museum’s collection and broaden the picture of how people were designing their walls. This proposed gift would be an asset to our collection and would benefit researchers and historic home interpretations.
