Textile, Effondrement

This is a Textile. It was designed by Sheila Hicks. It is dated 2005 and we acquired it in 2006. Its medium is synthetic fiber, silk, slate and its technique is synthetic threads in plain weave and discontinuous wefts (slit tapestry), with massed silk threads. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This white panel is embedded with loosely arranged, multicolor silk threads. The piles of threads are thin enough to see individually arranged strands that create asymmetrical spirals and circles. The bundle's colors are repeated and slightly overlap but like-color piles do not touch. There are eleven thread colors total: bright orange, lilac, cerulean blue, bubblegum pink, emerald green, gray, bright yellow, salmon pink, indigo blue, bright red, and bright teal.
