Booklet, Fox River Paper: Marian Bantjes

This is a Booklet. It was designed by Rick Valicenti. It is dated 2006 and we acquired it in 2007. Its medium is offset lithograph on white wove paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

This booklet for Fox River Paper, designed by Rick Valicenti and Gina Vieceli-Garza, is a compilation of graphic projects by Marian Bantjes that shows the range of design elements and influences that inform Bantjes’s work. The project incorporates a variety of papers and printing media, including embossing, fluorescent inks, and black foil. Custom inserts and reproductions of earlier projects provide an accurate depiction of Bantjes’s recent development.
A trend in contemporary design is the reexamination of the use of ornament as a counterpoint to the traditional clarity of the grid. Bantjes mines the history of calligraphy, type design, ornament, and oriental symbols and enlivens their compositions. Self-consciously autobiographical in tone, Bantjes's elaborate samplings of images, flourishes, and fonts take graphic design in a fresh new direction.

It is credited Gift of Marian Bantjes.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D: 29.4 x 19.1 x 0.5 cm (11 9/16 x 7 1/2 x 3/16 in.)
