Softseating Stool

This is a stool. It was designed by Todd MacAllen and Stephanie Forsythe and manufactured by molo design, ltd.. It is dated 2007 and we acquired it in 2007. Its medium is polyethylene (non-woven), cardboard, magnets. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This stool is made of polyethylene sheets sandwiched between two white cardboard panels, each with three embedded magnets, that link to form a cylinder shape. Part of a modular system, the Softseating stool can be assembled into a seat or stacked to section interior space. Easily transported when flat, the stool's polyethylene sheets pop into a circular object when fanned outward. The thin paper is sturdy enough to support weight, yet conforms to a user’s body for comfort. Portable, lightweight, and recyclable (but not designed for disposability), Softseating is a furniture system that is customizable to suit its users’ needs.

This object was donated by Irwin R. Berman and Linda Berman. It is credited The Linda and Irwin R. Berman Stool Collection.
