Map Sampler (Italy)

This is a Map sampler. It is dated 1952 and we acquired it in 1981. Its medium is mercerized cotton embroidery on linen foundation and its technique is embroidered in cross and back stitches on plain weave foundation; fringed on all four sides with a whipped stitch that catches the elements in groups of four. colored threads added with looping every twelve or sixteen elements. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was bequest of Gertrude M. Oppenheimer. It is credited Bequest of Gertrude M. Oppenheimer.
