Sampler (England)

This is a Sampler. It was embroidered by Sarah Davenport. It is dated October 7, 1681 and we acquired it in 1981. Its medium is silk and linen embroidery on linen foundation and its technique is embroidered in eyelet, satin, back, double running, cross, montenegrin, four-sided, and overcasting stitches, with two bands of withdrawn element work with needlemade fillings, looping, wrapping, and interlacing, on plain weave foundation. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was bequest of Gertrude M. Oppenheimer. It is credited Bequest of Gertrude M. Oppenheimer.
