Rocket and Soldier Cup

This is a cup. It was manufactured by Krasnodarsk Porcelain Factory. It is dated 1955–60 and we acquired it in 1989. Its medium is porcelain, enamel, gilding. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

It is credited The Henry and Ludmilla Shapiro Collection; Partial gift and partial purchase through the Decorative Arts Association Acquisition and Smithsonian Collections Acquisition Program Funds.

A booklet open to two pages with a full bleed black and white photograph of thousands of people. In the foreground of the photo, people are holding nazi flags. The left page has a medal of an eagle holding a swastika collaged on top of the photograph. In the center of the two pages is an illustration of an open book with four paragraphs of text. The right page has the heads of three men superimposed on top of the photograph. The first man is young and looks up while wearing a uniform and a helmet. The second older man wears a hat, has a mustasche, and looks to the left. The third man has a ragged shirt, his hair has been shaved above his ears and forehead, and he stares out at the viewer.
