Half Teacup

This is a teacup. It was designed by Kazimir Severinovich Malevich and Ilia Grigorevich Chashnik and made by State Porcelain Factory. It is dated 1923 and we acquired it in 1989. Its medium is porcelain. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Henry Shapiro and Ludmilla Shapiro. It is credited The Henry and Ludmilla Shapiro Collection; Partial gift and partial purchase through the Decorative Arts Association Acquisition and Smithsonian Collections Acquisition Program Funds.

H x W x D: 6 x 10.8 x 5.2 cm (2 3/8 x 4 1/4 x 2 1/16in.)

It has the following markings

On underside, hand-painted in black overglaze: "SupreMATism", square logo, hammer, sickle, cog / "1923 / N 474/578 / [after] Ilia Chashnik".
