Textile (France)

This is a Textile. It was manufactured by Gayet et Montgirod. It is dated 1760–61 and we acquired it in 1989. Its medium is linen warp, cotton weft and its technique is printed by engraved copper plate using a mordant for madder on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

It is credited Museum purchase from General Acquisitions Endowment Fund.

Warp x Weft (a): 217 x 97 cm (7 ft. 1 7/16 in. x 38 3/16 in.) Warp x Weft (b): 218.4 x 48.5 cm (7 ft. 2 in. x 19 1/8 in.) Repeat H (design and plate): 86 cm (33 7/8 in.)

It has the following markings

In graphite on back of b "Miss F. Morris" (probably Frances Morris).
