Pea green matte vase, 6 ½ inches tall; composed of planes and angles which produces a very architectural look. Although made of mold-blown glass, the vase appears to have started life as random chunks of glass that were joined together in the heat of the kiln. When two of the components overlap or are near each other, the “seams” appear as a darker green.

This is a vase. It is dated ca. 1928 and we acquired it in 1990. Its medium is mold-blown glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

The Ruba Rombic line of glassware designed by Reuben Haley for the Consolidated Lamp & Glass Company and patented in 1928 consisted of more than forty forms, from decanters, vases, and candlesticks to drinking glasses and plates, all available in a variety of colors. The line became the company’s most popular offering.

It is credited Museum purchase from James Ford Fund.

Transparent rectangular glass plate with engraving of two angular, crystal-like shaped vases or glasses. On the top right corner, the words [Ruba / Rombic] (a line of glassware) are engraved in capital letters. Engraving is combined with frosting of the glass to highlight the letters and the many facets of the vases with their dramatic angles. The combination of clear and frosted glass with the complex geometric planes of the vases is reminiscent of quartz. The glass plate is encased in a shiny chrome-plated metal frame with a stairstep, three-tiered base.
