Bowl (USA)

This is a bowl. It was made by Edwin Scheier and Mary Scheier. It is dated ca. 1955–59 and we acquired it in 1992. Its medium is thrown, painted, and glazed stoneware. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Edwin and Mary Scheier, a husband and wife ceramicist team, collaborated on their work, bonding Edwin’s more sculptural style with Mary’s wheel-thrown works. This bowl, produced while the couple was teaching at the University of New Hampshire, exemplifies this combination, as it has been skillfully and thinly thrown, yet retains a sculptural element in its conical shape.

This object was donated by Unknown donor: found in Collection. It is credited Gift of Unknown Donor.

Its dimensions are

H x diam.: 9.5 x 18 cm (3 3/4 x 7 1/16 in.)
