Textile With Chef De Piece, Le Marchand d'Orvietan

This is a Textile with chef de piece. It was manufactured by Manufacture de Dubern & Comp. a Nantes and Dubern & Cie.. It is dated ca. 1785 and we acquired it in 1994. Its medium is cotton and its technique is printed by engraved copper plate on plain weave; all yarns z-twist. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Cora Ginsburg. It is credited Gift of Cora Ginsburg.

Its dimensions are

Warp x Weft (left selvedge present): 131.5 x 97.5 cm (51 3/4 x 38 3/8 in.)

It is inscribed

Stamp at one end:"MANUFACTURE DE DUBERN. ET COMPe" (rest unreadable) within partial box. The top of 'N Ds' is just readable but not the actual number, which is two numbers the first being 1 or 5.
