Textile (France)

This is a Textile. It was company: J.P.Meiller et Cie.. It is dated ca. 1795 and we acquired it in 1994. Its medium is cotton and its technique is printed by block on plain weave. two blocks were used; one for red, one for black. the black block had an irregular outline within the picotage area. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Cora Ginsburg. It is credited Gift of Cora Ginsburg.

Its dimensions are

Warp x Weft: 187 x 96 cm (6 ft. 1 5/8 in. x 37 13/16 in.) Repeat H: 25.5 x 19 cm (10 1/16 x 7 1/2 in.); measurements are the same for both the repeat and the printing blocks.

It is inscribed

Stamp at one end: " J.P.Meillier & Cie de Beautiran pres Bourdeaux" in script within lozenge that also contains "D1325" and "NOD84". Also; "Comm. No. 3" and "E.LM within boxes.
